After five years as an in-house counsel, Everett turned his experience and expertise to helping startups, small, and medium sized businesses by providing a cost-effective alternative to an in-house counsel. He has extensive experience in counseling entrepreneurs as they form and build their businesses, offering a graduated fee structure to make sure client dreams can become client realities. He advises musicians, authors, artists, audio/video production companies, and others in the entertainment industry as they navigate the pitfalls of negotiating and contracting with recording companies, publishers, promoters, studios, distributors, and one another. Additionally, Everett has served as counsel for plaintiffs and defendants alike in numerous state and federal lawsuits involving a wide variety of claims.

Everett prides himself on speaking “geek” and “business” in addition to “law.” He understands the demands of running a business and the balance between risk and reward that all businesses face. Despite only having a computer science minor, Everett has stayed on top of the advancements in technology and information systems, which allows him to work with numerous start-ups in the tech industry. His clients include private equity companies, car dealerships, app developers, DE&I consultants, digital media companies, bands and individual artists, serial entrepreneurs, and real estate brokers and agents. But, he prides himself most on the relationships he has with his clients, many of whom count him as a friend as much as counsel. He is passionate about family and helping people solve their problems. And combat boots.

Described as a Renaissance man by friend and foe, in addition to being an attorney, Everett is a licensed private investigator. After putting his business degree to use for a few years in the financial services industry, he spent five years on “the job” as a cop in Lubbock (a town that’s big enough to be interesting but small enough to only get shot at a couple of times). He can take apart a computer and a 1965 Mustang and put them both back together again, is an expert marksman, and makes a mean carne guisada.

Everett has served on the Vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, the Board of Trustees of St. John’s Episcopal School, the Board of the Museum of International Cultures and on the North Dallas High School Alumni Board. He is a member of the Dallas Bar Association and served as a Director for the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers. He is a Fellow of the DAYL Foundation, was a member of the 2007 DAYL Leadership Class, and has been named a Texas Rising Star in Law and Politics Magazine. While in-house, he served on the Alliance Business Synergy Team and on the Corporate Diversity Committee. He has also been a featured presenter at conferences on e-discovery and entrepreneurial leadership.
